LOHATES is a portable freestanding handrail developed in 2022 through a creative collaboration between our company and the renowned design studio graf. Unlike conventional assistive products, LOHATES redefines the image of mobility aids by merging practical functionality with the refined aesthetics of modern furniture design. It is an elegant yet reliable support tool designed to blend seamlessly into daily living spaces. Weighing only 1.8 kilograms, LOHATES can be effortlessly carried and positioned wherever support is needed—next to a chair, bed, or in the entryway. The lightweight construction does not compromise stability, ensuring safe assistance for standing and sitting movements. The grip section is crafted from natural wood, providing a gentle, warm texture that enhances both comfort and visual harmony with interior surroundings. Beyond its functionality, LOHATES stands out as a design-driven mobility aid that enriches the atmosphere of any room. Its refined silhouette and carefully balanced proportions reflect graf’s signature design philosophy, emphasizing the harmony between utility and beauty. In recognition of its innovative concept and aesthetic value, LOHATES received the prestigious KENTEN AWARD from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2022. This honor highlights the product’s unique contribution to combining assistive technology with contemporary design. Building on this success, in 2023 we partnered with a traditional lacquerware studio in Wakayama Prefecture to introduce LOHATES WAGEI, a premium line inspired by the 400-year heritage of Kishu-Kuroe lacquer craftsmanship. This special edition integrates the timeless artistry of Japanese urushi lacquer with the functionality of modern care equipment, creating a new expression of cultural and practical value. LOHATES is more than a mobility aid—it is a lifestyle product that embodies elegance, independence, and comfort.
